Foundations for a Thoughtful Jewish Life

Adult Education

Foundations for a Thoughtful Judaism is a curricular project which offers a sophisticated yet accessible introduction to philosophical ideas in Jewish peoplehood, practice, faith, and ethics. Its content is based on the Shalom Hartman Institute's teaching from the last four decades.

The curriculum grew out of an interest in sharing ideas that have been taught at the Institute to rabbis for decades with people who are new to Jewish tradition, and is designed to allow even beginners to have access to deep Jewish thought. This includes interfaith relationships, people exploring their own Judaism for the first time, and those who are working towards conversion.  The curriculum is not a how-to Judaism 101 course, but instead serves as a complement for those who wish to grapple with philosophical questions at the heart of Jewish tradition.

From February thru May of this year, on most Wednesdays from 7:15pm-8:45pm Rabbi Rose will be teaching the Practice section of this curriculum. This curriculum is designed so that each class stands alone, so if you would like to attend one class out of the eleven, you won’t be missing anything by dropping in. But of course Rabbi Rose hopes you will come and enjoy as many classes as you can.

The fee for non-members is $100 for the term which can be paid when registering.
